Arizona rules for licensed agents

How many continuing education hours does an Arizona agent need?

Arizona ties license renewal to continuing education. The renewal statute sets 24 credit hours for salespersons and associate brokers and 30 credit hours for designated brokers, accrued over each 24 month period of licensure, or a lesser number the Commissioner prescribes. The Department’s rule asks a designated or delegated associate broker for 24 credit hours and a Broker Management Clinic, and we did not find how the two are reconciled.

Rule text read from the 2026 Law Book of the Arizona Department of Real Estate, azre.gov, read November 1, 2026. Informational, not legal advice.

The renewal statute

The statute is A.R.S. 32-2130, Renewal of licenses; education requirements, printed in the Department of Real Estate’s Law Book. Subsection A says what a renewal has to show. The quote leaves out the subsection’s opening words, “Except as provided in subsection K of this Section,” which point to the inactive license provision:

“A license may be renewed in a timely manner by filing an application for renewal in the manner prescribed by the commissioner, by paying the renewal fee specified in this chapter and by presenting evidence of attendance at a school certified by the commissioner during the preceding license period”

The same sentence goes on to name the hours: 24 credit hours for salespersons and associate brokers, 30 credit hours for designated brokers and for associate brokers employed by a designated broker under the arrangement in the recordkeeping statute, or a lesser number the Commissioner prescribes. The hours accrue in each 24 month period of licensure.

What the Department’s rule asks

The Department’s rule on the same subject is R4-28-402, Continuing Education Requirements; Waiver; Distance Learning, in the same Law Book. For a salesperson or associate broker it says:

“A real estate salesperson or associate broker applying for renewal shall submit proof of satisfactory completion of 24 credit hours of continuing education courses in the categories specified in subsection (A)(5)”
“The renewal applicant shall complete a minimum of three hours in each of the mandatory categories under subsections (A)(5)(a) through (A)(5)(h).”

For a designated broker or a delegated associate broker the figure in the rule is different from the statute’s:

“A real estate designated or delegated associate broker applying for renewal shall submit proof of satisfactory completion of 24 credit hours of continuing education courses.”

The same paragraph adds that this renewal applicant “shall complete a Broker Management Clinic” under A.R.S. 32-2136. The statute says 30 credit hours and the rule says 24 plus the clinic. We did not find how the Department reconciles them, so the current requirement for a designated broker is a question for the Department.

Waivers and Department courses

“The commissioner may waive all or a portion of the continuing education requirement for good cause shown.”
“This section does not require a licensee to attend department produced or sponsored courses if approved courses are otherwise available.”

The statute leaves the content of the credit hours to the Commissioner and says the Department keeps a list of approved courses:

“The commissioner shall determine by rule the content of the renewal credit hours.”

When the license has already expired

Subsection B is the rule for a late renewal:

“If an applicant is renewing a license within one year after it expired, the applicant may apply continuing education hours completed after the expiration toward the continuing education required for renewal.”

Subsection F explains why the date matters:

“Between the expiration date of the license and the date of renewal of the license, the rights of the licensee under the license expire.”

The subsection goes on to say that acting as a broker or salesperson while the license is expired is unlawful and that the Department terminates a license that has been expired for more than one year. Subsection G lets the Department renew without an examination within that year when the license was not canceled or suspended.

What this page does not settle

This page does not cover the categories of courses in subsection (A)(5) of the rule or the distance learning provisions. An inactive license has its own treatment of education; see what an agent with an inactive Arizona license can do. For a question about your own renewal, ask your designated broker or the Department.

Does Listing AutomatEr track Arizona continuing education?

No. The app builds and schedules posts for listings you have permission to market. Arizona continuing education and renewal is outside what it does.

Where Listing AutomatEr fits

Listing AutomatEr is a desktop app for Mac and Windows that posts the listings you have permission to market to Facebook Marketplace on a schedule. By default it puts your name on the post as the agent marketing the home and credits the brokerage that holds the listing.

It does not obtain the permission for you, and it does not decide whether a post meets a rule. That stays with you and your broker.
